The first Christmas that Philip and I spent as a married couple, I made him a photobook. It was Christmas 2007, so I did a book of all the photos of us during 2006 (while we were dating and engaged). Since then, it’s become a Christmas tradition.
I’ve skipped around to different photobook companies over the years (usually depending on the deals I got), and have been happy with some, and not so happy with others.
A few weeks ago, MyMemories.com contacted me and asked me to review their digital scrapbooking software, and since I’m never one to turn down free stuff, of course I said yes. Let me just tell you, I am not a scrapbooker. The time and effort that goes into scrapbooks is mind-boggling; plus the materials are so expensive, and you end up with a big huge binder, bursting at the seams with doodads and half glued pictures (or maybe those were just my poorly made scrapbooks that I made growing up).
Enter digital scrapbooking, and suddenly I’m interested. Although I’m a simple, clean, and streamlined girl when it comes to design, I do like the idea of something a little more fun than just white backgrounds and a few rectangular pictures.
After playing around with My Memories Suite for a few hours, I realized all the possibilities of digital scrap booking. If you are the type of person that loves all the frills and doodads of scrap booking, there are millions of downloads and kits right at your fingertips. And if you’re like me and just want something a little more fun and interesting than the basic stuff that most photobooks give you, then this is the place to do it. Also, you don’t just have to make a photobook — you can also print your pages at home to make a traditional scrapbook, make calendars, make CD’s or DVD’s of your images, or even upload your files to your blog or facebook.
Inspired by all the fun “project life” layouts out there, I did a fun and simple little page layout with a few pictures from our recent trip to Disneyland.
I loved that I could easily place photos wherever I wanted on the page, round the edges of my photos, use all my own fonts (that I’ve collected over the years), and even create that cute little blue polka dot box in the top left corner with one of the many free scrapbook papers that comes with the Suite. Seriously, it was SO easy, and super fun.
You can guarantee that next year’s Christmas album will be WAY more fun than the previous six!
